Grant Cancer Centre First in U.S. to Implement Accuray Radixact System with VitalHold Technology

The Charles L. and Miki N. Grant Cancer Centre for Hope in Florida is the first in the United States to deploy the Accuray Radixact® System with VitalHoldTM* technology for cancer treatment, according to a joint announcement from Accuray Incorporated and Halifax Health. By offering a tool for patient positioning and accuracy monitoring during treatment, the VitalHold function improves radiation delivery precision. The Cancer Centre for Hope in Port Orange is where the system is kept. Halifax Health added Accuray-exclusive ClearRT® helical CT imaging and Synchrony® real-time adaptive delivery technology to its Radixact System.

When paired with VitalHold, the comprehensive radiation delivery system may treat a greater variety of cancer cases—including breast cancer—more quickly and with little patient damage. Given that there will likely be a 35% rise in new cancer cases in the United States between 2022 and 20401, it is critical that medical teams have the resources necessary to provide the finest treatment both now and in the future.

On the Radixact System, the VitalHold feature integrates Catalyst+ HD from C-RAD, a fully automated and integrated surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT) technology. By using a high-resolution camera to scan a patient's body surface and instantly rebuilding it as a 3D picture, SGRT enables very precise placement. This ensures great repeatability of the patient position throughout treatment by making it simple for doctors to visualise the difference between the present body position and the goal position.

By moving the heart away from the chest wall and the targeted tumour, VitalHold also makes deep inspiration breath hold (DIBH) treatments on the Radixact System possible. This minimises radiation dosage to organs at risk (OARs) and lowers issues that may arise later in life. Additionally offered is tattoo-free posture, which enhances patient comfort and may improve cosmetic result.
