Baxter International Inc. introduced an enhanced variation of its Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat that enables storage at room temperature, thus providing improved surgical accessibility. The company made its announcement at an Austria-based medical symposium. With this upgrade, surgeons have quicker access to a ready-to-use solution for controlling bleeding or sealing tissues during surgery.
Steve Wallace, president of Advanced Surgery at Baxter, stated, “For over a decade, Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat has offered surgeons a reliable solution for tissue sealing, dura sealing, and hemostasis—the product evolution to include room temperature storage results from close collaboration between surgeons and Baxter. Removing the need for refrigeration addresses the needs of our customers to have the product on hand in critical situations. We are proud to continue Baxter's legacy of innovation in sealing and hemostasis.”
Hemopatch is an absorbable collagen pad designed for hemostasis and tissue sealing, including applications in dura sealing. It can be used effectively in both open and minimally invasive surgeries. Real-world data from a European registry shows that Hemopatch provides rapid and reliable bleeding control across various procedures. The product is now available for order throughout Europe.
“More than 10 years ago, I first used Hemopatch Sealing Hemostat for experimental testing. Since then, I have used it daily because of its unique characteristics as a sealing hemostatic patch, especially in laparoscopic surgery. In my opinion, eliminating the need for refrigeration and increasing product shelf life are crucial improvements because they enable surgeons to have the product available in the operating room when it matters most. After application, the product shows an enhanced adhesive strength, supporting us surgeons in achieving better surgical outcomes,” commented General Surgeon Prof. Dr. Med. Selman Uranüs.
