BGS Beta-Gamma-Service, a leading provider of radiation
sterilization for medical devices and pharmaceuticals, is set to open its first
U.S. facility in mid-2025. The new 100,000-square-foot plant, located in
Imperial, PA, near Pittsburgh International Airport, will offer fully automated
E-Beam sterilization and will operate as BGS US. Leonard Zuba, formerly of
Raumedic, will serve as general manager, with Bert Whitt, an expert in
radiation sterilization, overseeing operations.
The expansion comes as U.S. manufacturers of medical and
biotechnology products face growing challenges with sterilization capacity due
to the limitations of traditional ethylene oxide (EtO) methods and the scarcity
of Cobalt-60. BGS's advanced E-Beam technology offers a promising alternative.
With three successful facilities in Germany, BGS’s U.S. expansion is aimed at
addressing domestic supply chain bottlenecks and meeting the increasing demand
for sterilization services.
“Pittsburgh’s proximity to key markets and the interest from
potential U.S. clients made it the ideal choice for our first U.S. location,”
said Zuba. The company expects its U.S. operations to play a vital role in
reducing sterilization challenges for American manufacturers.
