With the introduction of the BioE3 policy, India is set to
lead the charge in the next industrial revolution. This initiative is expected
to drive substantial investments in innovation, with the goal of boosting the
bio-economic sector to reach a target of Rs 25 lakh crore by 2030. In Kerala,
the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is spearheading efforts to
shift from traditional chemical-based industries to bio-manufacturing
centers.
These centers are designed to bolster the nation’s economy
while addressing crucial issues related to food, energy, and climate change.
Dr. Chandrabhas Narayana, director of RGCB in Thiruvananthapuram, commended the
move towards bio-manufacturing hubs. He shared that RGCB plans to launch
awareness campaigns across Kerala to inform various stakeholders about the
BioE3 policy.
In a panel discussion with senior officials from the
Department of Science and Technology (DST) on Thursday, RGCB reaffirmed its
commitment to guiding Kerala in the rollout of this transformative policy.
Approved last weekend, the BioE3 policy aims to harness the power of
bio-manufacturing to foster a cleaner, greener India. The state-wide
initiative, which includes workshops and discussions on BioE3, has been
launched to emphasize the policy’s critical role in advancing the country’s
carbon neutrality goals.
