Pharma Now shares the list of breathtaking achievers who received awards at CPHI Milan for path-breaking innovations and milestone achievements made by the leaders in the pharma industry. Here’s a list of 14 Awardees:
Future Leader Award: Megan Smyth, Almac Sciences
This year, CPHI introduced two new categories of awards, one of them being the Future Leader Award. CPHI recognises Megan Smyth of Almac Sciences as the Future Leader for rising through 5 levels in her company in 7 years and achieving the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI ) Future Leaders Fellowship.
In the Press Release, CPHI stated, “Megan has built an innovative flow chemistry platform at Almac, and there is a clear strategic alignment between her career intentions and the future requirement for leadership within the company.”
Woman of the Year Award: Julia Tsetis, OFET Pharmaceutical Group
Another new category of Award, Woman of the Year, was received by Julia Tsetis, the CEO of OFET Pharmaceutical Group, for commitment to innovation, sustainability, and social responsibility.
CPHI appreciates her leadership skills, stating in a Press Release that “In her role as CEO of the OFET Pharmaceutical Group, she is regarded as a true visionary and trailblazer in the pharmaceutical industry and has left an indelible mark on the global healthcare landscape.”
CEO of the Year: Guy Clark, CNX Therapeutics
Guy Clart, the CEO of CNX Therapeutics, was named CEO of the Year for his efforts to grow the company remarkably and transition it to a standalone entity with ÂŁ50 million in revenues. The company has sold more than 20 products this year globally.
API Development and Innovation: Lonza, AI-Enabled Route Scouting Service
Lonza, providing AI-enabled Route Scouting Service, bagged the API development and Innovation award for developing predictive tools using AI. These tools combine theoretical retrosynthesis with supply chain intelligence to recognise commercially viable routes. Such tools assist in designing optimal synthesis routes for small molecule APIs.
Drug Delivery and Device Innovation: Adare Pharma Solutions
In the Drug Delivery and Device Innovation category, Adare Pharma Solutions received this award for its innovative treatment strategy to treat tremors and other uncontrolled body movements.
In its Press Release, CPHI appreciates Adare Pharma Solutions, saying, “Based on an innovative sprinkle formulation, it is a game-changer for patients who struggle to take capsules due to hand tremors or difficulty in swallowing as it can be easily mixed into soft foods or liquids.”
Finished Formulation: Unistraw, UniLayer Straw Delivery System
Unistraw’s UniLayer Straw Delivery System was recognised with the Finished Formulation Award for a 2mg Loperamide HCl straw that delivers medication via a plant-sourced and fully compostable polymer straw.
Manufacturing Excellence: RheaVita, RheaLyo GMP-Flex continuous freeze-dryer
CPHI awarded the Manufacturing Excellence award to RheaVita’s RheaLyo GMP-Flex continuous freeze-dryer +1 2 for its excellent aseptic production process. It is the first continuous freeze-drying system with remarkable capabilities to handle the requirements of aseptic good manufacturing practices.
Packaging and Machinery: Smurfit WestRock, CereScreen Digital Display Label
In the category of packaging and machinery, CPHI awarded Smurfit WestRock’s CereScreen Digital Display Label for its seamless integration of digital screens into clinical trial investigational medicinal product packaging.
As per the Sources, the screen allows for multiple pages and has all the contents for the labels required besides QR codes and other information. These labels can also be customised to suit the specific needs of the trail, such as support for multiple languages.
Regulatory and Compliance: ProPharma Group, Prodigy
ProPharma Group’s Prodigy bagged the award in the category of Regulatory and Compliance. The suite of AI and Advanced Automation applications helps solve issues regarding productivity that cause delays and incur costs.

Start-Up Initiative: Acu-Flo Ltd, Nebu-Flow nebulizer platform
The Nebu-Flow Nebulizer Platform by Acu-Flo Ltd was awarded in the category of the Start-Up Initiative by CPHI. It overcomes technical limitations by generating a soft aerosol with a high inhalable fraction (>90%). It can aerosolize biological formulations like RNA.
Supply Chain Excellence: QYOBO GmbH
In the category of Supply Chain Excellence, QYOBO GmbH won the award. It offers a platform that provides essential insights for managing supply chains globally. It helps companies identify, manage and predict the risks associated. The platform has a rich database from more than 250 sources.
QYOBO GmbH offers a comprehensive view of supply chains for 2 million+ drugs in 40+ countries, encouraging a quick and informed decision-making process to mitigate risks and prevent drug shortages.
Sustainability Award: Evonik Industries AG, PhytoSquene
Besides AI, Sustainability is another game-changing term. Along with CPHI, Pharma Now supports sustainable growth as well. CPHI awarded the much-deserved candidate PhytoSquene, a plant-based Squalene by Evonik Industries AG, for parenteral applications. It is the first plant-based GMP-quality squalene. Currently, the pharmaceutical-grade squalene is sourced from shark liver oil, which depletes the shark population and affects marine biodiversity.
Evonik Industries AG’s efforts were fruitful in producing PhytoSquene from amaranth oil. Amaranthus caudatus is a herbaceous plant that can be grown as a renewable feedstock in many parts of the world. Pharma Now supports sustainable development by producing an E-magazine. Heart of Pharma Award: West Pharmaceutical Services
The West Pharmaceutical Services bagged the Heart of Pharma Award for its successful collaboration with the Fox Chase Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center to deliver cancer screening to Pennsylvanians through a mobile screening unit.
Accelerating Innovation Award: AustinPx, KinetiSol Technology
KinetiSol Technology won the award in the category of Accelerating Innovation. It is a fusion-based, solvent-free process designed by AustinPx to solve the problem of poor drug solubility. With the emergence of new molecules having complex properties, the traditional formulation methods are not efficient enough to meet the demand for effective drug absorption. KinetiSol is a game-changer as it rapidly converts crystalline drugs into amorphous solid dispersion, thereby remarkably improving its bioavailability.
