In a July 31 earnings call, CEO Lori Koch highlighted that
DuPont's acquisition of Donatelle and Spectrum Plastics Group—bought for $1.75
billion last year—will significantly enhance the company’s capabilities in the
medical device sector. Koch explained that these acquisitions are poised to
strengthen DuPont’s role as a leading partner in the rapidly expanding medical
device market. Notably, Donatelle’s connections with major medical device OEMs
set it apart from Spectrum.
Founded in 1967 and headquartered in New Brighton,
Minnesota, Donatelle operates a single factory and employs over 400 people.
Situated in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area, known as Medical Alley, it’s close
to key OEMs like Medtronic, Abbott, and Solventum, 3M’s healthcare spinoff.
Donatelle’s location provides DuPont with opportunities to cross-sell related
products, thanks to its expertise in machining, tooling, injection molding,
liquid silicone rubber processing, and device assembly.
The acquisition is projected to contribute an additional $75
million in revenue for DuPont this year, according to SVP and CFO Antonella
Franzen. Meanwhile, DuPont continues to advance its split into three distinct
entities: materials science, electronics, and water filtration. Executive
Chairman Ed Breen mentioned that the company is focusing on finalizing
leadership and board appointments for the electronics and water filtration
divisions, with updates expected next year.
