Nestle will launch its new line, a $5 line of frozen pizzas and protein-enriched pasta in the United States, specifically designed for people on Wegovy or Ozempic weight-loss drugs, as per the reports.
The biggest food company in the world selling DiGiorno Pizza and Stouffer’s meals to major grocers said that it had developed new products having more amounts of protein, iron, and calcium for the people on GLP-1 agonists, the popular appetite-suppressing drugs.
The president of Nestle USA’s meal division, Tom Moe, said that Nestle would pitch the meals under a new brand, Vital Pursuit, as a “food solution” for people who wish to complement their medication with “the right nutrition- high protein, good fibre, the right minerals”, like Potassium and Vitamin C.
The products will reach the market shelves in October and are priced at $4.99 and below, a little more expensive than a DiGiorno four cheese personal plan pizza, sold for $4.79 at Target.
The other biggest brands of Nestle include KitKat chocolate bars and Nescafe coffee, which also started working on companion products to the GLP-1 drugs last year. Moe says, “We moved real fast on this”
The CEO of Nestle, Mark Schneider, said that, in October, the company was “carefully” monitoring whether the use of drugs might hamper the demand for its food products. At that time, Nestle was working on “companion products” that might limit the “loss of lean muscle mass” in people on the drugs, and he added more.
