Orano Med Launches Cutting-Edge Radiotherapy Plant in Indianapolis

In a landmark move for cancer treatment, Orano Med has officially opened its Alpha Therapy Laboratory (ATLab) in Brownsburg, near Indianapolis. This $20 million facility, covering 30,000 square feet, marks the first industrial-scale site dedicated to producing lead-212-based radioligand therapies. This innovative approach combines biological targeting with potent alpha emissions to effectively destroy cancer cells.

The ATLab will create 25 high-tech jobs and aims to produce 10,000 doses annually by 2025, scaling to 100,000 doses by 2030. CEO Julien Dodet emphasized the transformative potential of these therapies, noting, “Alpha particles offer unparalleled precision, significantly enhancing treatment effectiveness compared to beta emitters.” This facility will play a crucial role in meeting the growing global demand for advanced cancer therapies.

The groundbreaking ceremony in Onnaing, France, which attended by key regional and national officials, underscored the importance of this development. This facility, along with its counterpart in France, represents a significant expansion in Orano Med's capacity to deliver cutting-edge cancer treatments globally.

The new ATLab in Brownsburg is part of a broader strategy to ensure the availability of these advanced therapies close to patients. Given the short half-life of lead-212, production sites need to be near treatment centers to maintain efficacy. Orano Med plans to establish additional ATLabs worldwide to meet this requirement.

With the support of regional and national initiatives, including the France 2030 investment plan, Orano Med is well-positioned to lead in the biopharmaceutical sector, providing innovative solutions for cancer treatment and contributing to the revitalization of the industrial and economic landscape.
