Scorpius Holdings, Inc., a leading integrated contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO), has declared the launch of Scorpius Ventures, a new business unit to support early-stage biotech companies. This innovative program uses a flexible model of onshoring, which charges service fees and equity investment, allowing biotech start-ups to overcome financial barriers to promote domestic biologics production.
Jeff Wolf, CEO of Scorpius Holdings, said, “At Scorpius, we’re committed to enabling biotech innovation by aiming to reduce financial obstacles and creating true partnerships. Through Scorpius Ventures, we’re providing biotech companies with the resources they need to advance critical therapies through a hybrid fee and equity model, fostering shared success while advancing our mission to strengthen U.S. biosecurity and manufacturing independence.”
Scorpius Ventures allows access to cGMP manufacturing at a cost-effective price by accepting equity instead of the production services provided. This fits into the objectives of the BIOSECURE Act, which has as its primary goal of further strengthening U.S.-based manufacturing of critical biological products to enhance national security, boost economic stability, and create jobs.
Scorpius Ventures leverages the company’s extensive Chemistry, Manufacturing, and control (CMC) expertise to streamline development and minimise risks for its partners. The fee-and-equity structure also offers biotech startups a valuable resource for fundraising by demonstrating strong manufacturing support and a clear path to commercialisation.
This new initiative represents a transformational approach to accelerating the development and production of U.S.-manufactured biologics, advancing the objectives of the BIOSECURE Act while providing emerging biotech companies with essential resources to succeed.
