India’s Pharma Industry Charts the Way Forward at the Pharma Sterile & Injectables 2025

April 2025, Ahmedabad - Team Pharma Now recently had the opportunity to attend one of India’s most prestigious pharma exhibitions, named Pharma Sterile & Injectables 2025. The event, a 1-day affair, saw attendance from pharmaceutical leaders, technologists, and manufacturing experts gathered to explore one of the fastest-growing segments in pharma.

Held in the Crowne Plaza, Ahmedabad, the exhibition saw discussion on key aspects challenging the pharma industry. One of the industry veterans, Dr. Tathagata Datta, started the day by reflecting on India’s pharma journey. He remarked that while generics once offered easy wins, the focus is now shifting towards sterile and injectable formulations that demand advanced infrastructure, stringent quality control, and deep technical expertise.

Drawing from his experience in preparing for India’s first CAR-T cell therapy, Datta emphasised the need for readiness and innovation across the value chain.

Further, Mr. Chandrashekhar Shinde shared practical perspectives on facility layout optimization. He stressed the importance of unidirectional workflows—a design approach that ensures separate entry and exit points for people and materials, significantly reducing the risk of cross-contamination. His session provided clear takeaways on how thoughtful design can directly impact compliance and product quality.

One of the standout moments was Mr. Rakesh Kumar Sinha’s session on producing cost-effective, high-quality injectables. He unpacked the components of Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE)—availability, performance, and quality—and how each factor contributes not just to operational excellence but also to product safety. His explanation of value stream mapping was particularly relevant, illustrating how compartmentalizing manufacturing activities helps uncover inefficiencies and streamline operations.

Overall, the Pharma Sterile & Injectables 2025 proved to be a good success for the pharma industry. The overall discussions underscored the growing sophistication of sterile and injectable manufacturing and the collaborative mindset needed to push boundaries.
