The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued an urgent appeal for $1.5 billion to tackle escalating global health emergencies in 2025, with 305 million people projected to require assistance. This call to action is part of the 2025 Health Emergency Appeal, aimed at funding critical health interventions in response to a surge in overlapping crises, including conflicts, climate change, epidemics, and forced displacement.
WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the dire need, highlighting 42 ongoing emergencies, 17 of which are classified as Grade 3, the highest level of response. "Conflicts, outbreaks, and climate-related disasters are no longer isolated—they are relentless and intensifying. This appeal is about saving lives and providing hope," Dr. Tedros stated. WHO's efforts span regions like Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and occupied Palestinian territory, addressing maternal and child health, immunizations, and mental trauma in communities facing unprecedented challenges. This appeal underscores not just a plea for funding but a call for global solidarity to ensure no one is left behind.
